Stifle Injections: Aftercare

After your horse's stifle injections, it's important to follow these aftercare guidelines to ensure a smooth recovery and optimal results:

Stall Rest: Keep your horse on stall rest for the entire day following the procedure. This period of rest is essential to allow the injection to take effect without unnecessary movement that could disrupt the healing process.

Return to Turnout: After the initial day of stall rest, your horse can gradually return to regular turnout. This means they can go back to their usual routine of moving around and grazing. However, monitor their activity to ensure they are not overexerting themselves.

Under Saddle Work: Your horse can begin a gradual return to under saddle work starting on day four with light riding. By day seven after the procedure, they should be able to return to their normal under saddle work. This gradual approach helps prevent strain and ensures a safe return to normal activities.

Injection Site Care: For the first 24 hours after the procedure, avoid hosing or bathing your horse near the injection sites. This precaution helps prevent irritation and potential infection at the injection sites.

Monitoring: Keep a close eye on your horse for any signs of increased lameness, heat, or swelling, especially near the injection sites. These symptoms could indicate complications or adverse reactions to the injection. If you notice any of these signs, please contact us immediately so we can reassess and adjust the treatment plan as needed.

Following these steps will help your horse recover comfortably and safely. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out.
